About Permata
An independent journal about science, technology and the living world — written for people who want to understand how things actually work.
Last updated: 1 March 2025
Permata was founded in 2019 with a simple frustration behind it: too much coverage of science and technology reads either like a press release or like a textbook. We wanted something in between — accurate enough that a specialist would not wince, and clear enough that anyone curious could follow along.
Today we publish reporting, explainers and analysis across four areas: Technology, Science, Nature and Animals. Every article is written in English, edited for clarity, and published under a named byline.
What we stand for
- Accuracy before speed. We would rather be right than first. When we get something wrong, we correct it and say so.
- Clarity is not simplification. We respect our readers enough to explain complexity, not to flatten it.
- Independence. Editorial decisions are made by our editors, not by advertisers or outside parties.
- Transparency. We label sponsored content clearly and disclose how we are funded on this page.
How we work
Our writers research primary sources — peer-reviewed papers, official documentation, standards bodies and direct interviews — before they write. Drafts are reviewed by a section editor, fact-checked against the underlying sources, and only then published.
We are a small, distributed team. Our contributors cover cloud infrastructure, computing hardware, molecular biology, environmental science and wildlife behaviour, and they write about what they genuinely know.
Editorial team
Our reporting is led by our section editors and correspondents. You can see each writer's work and background on their published articles, where every story carries a named author and a short biography.
How we are funded
Permata is supported by display advertising and by our subscribers. Advertising is clearly marked where it appears, and advertisers have no influence over editorial content. If we publish content that was paid for, it is labelled as sponsored or as an advertisement, in line with applicable advertising standards.
Corrections
If you believe something we published is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, please tell us. Corrections are made promptly and noted at the foot of the affected article. You can reach the editorial team through our Contact Us page.
